This refuge started out much larger. However, due to irrigation runoff into the Salton Sea, it has lost much of its acreage. It is adjacent to areas that allow hunting, so there is actually a larger area that is good habitat. Some of the area is artificially cultivated to create habitat.
The coordinates are the location for the picnic area, visitor center, a birding platform, and trails to go out into the refuge.
