This mural was painted to honor Raymond Zinke Gallun, who was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1911. He published many science fiction stories during the 1930's and beyond.
This mural was painted by the Walldogs, as part of a larger Mural Festival held in Beaver Dam in June 2017.
This mural was paid for by the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association and its generous donors.
The mural hangs on the side of the Raaske Repair building on S. Center Street.
This mural features reddish rocky mountain landscape covering the lower third of the mural. The sky above the landscape fades from a light blue to a darker blue at the top and has 4 starbursts along with several indistinguishable dots representing stars.
In the right corner is the upper portion (shoulders and head) of an astronaut in what appears to be a 30's era space suit including a helmet with a colored eye shield and two antennae on either side of the helmet as well as a microphone inside the helmet.
The right side features an silver rocket ship blasting off. Behind the rocket ship is a planet, very similar to Saturn with a ring around its equator. There is also a grey planet with two rings at about a 45 degree angle to each other.
The center of the mural has the words
