Das Maxim-Kino eröffnete am 14. September 1912 unter dem Namen "Lichtspieltheater des Westens".
Aufgrund seiner geringen Größe und seines Charakters als Vorstadtkino war es für Verleiher als Erstaufführungstheater nie interessant. Zunächst liefen hier Unterhaltungsfilme. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg lockten so genannte Aufklärungsfilme das Publikum ins Kino. Daneben wurden Abenteuerfilme gezeigt. Um 1927 standen erste gesellschaftskritische russische Filme auf dem Programm.
Da das Kino weniger als 100 Sitzplätze hat, mussten die jeweiligen Besitzer mehrmals pro Tag Filme zeigen und zweimal wöchentlich das Programm wechseln, um das Kino wirtschaftlich betreiben zu können.
Im Sommer 2016 wurde das Kino unter neuer Leitung saniert und modernisiert. Neben der Einrichtung eines zweiten Kinosaals wurde unter anderem die Kinotechnik, die Lüftungsanlage und der Brandschutz modernisiert. Seit Oktober 2016 wird das Kino als Neues Maxim von der Lichtspiel GmbH betrieben und ist ein Programmkino. Gezeigt werden thematische Filmreihen, Werkschauen, Retrospektiven, Dritte-Welt-Filme, Dokumentarfilme und Kurz-Filme jenseits des Massengeschmacks.
Der große Saal im Erdgeschoss (81 Plätze) wird seit 1912 (mittlerweile in leicht abgeänderter Form) bespielt und ist wahrscheinlich der einzige Kinosaal der Welt, der über Tageslicht verfügt und somit auch tagsüber für Veranstaltungen nutzbar ist.
Unser kleiner Saal (33 Plätze, davon 4 Fatboy Sitzsäcke) ist eher ein Wohnzimmerkino – sehr gemütlich und durch die eingebauten Podeste immer mit guter Sicht.
Beide Säle sind mit moderner Digitaltechnik ausgestattet.

Das Kino ist täglich (außer Heilig Abend) jeweils 30 min. vor Beginn der ersten Vorstellung geöffnet.

The Maxim cinema opened on September 14, 1912 under the name "Lichtspieltheater des Westens ??".
Because of its small size and its character as a suburban cinema, it was never interesting for distributors as the first performance theater. At first entertainment films were running here. After the First World War, so-called reconnaissance films lured the audience into the cinema. Adventure films were also shown. Around 1927 the first Russian films were on the program.
Since the cinema has less than 100 seats, the respective owners had to show films per day and change the program twice a week in order to be able to operate the cinema economically.
In the summer of 2016, the cinema was renovated and modernized under a new management. In addition to the establishment of a second cinema hall, the kino technology, the ventilation system and the fire protection were modernized. Since October 2016 the cinema has been operated as a new Maxim by Lichtspiel GmbH and is a program cinema. They show thematic film series, work reviews, retrospectives, third-world films, documentary films and short films beyond the mass flavors.
The large hall on the ground floor (81 seats) has been played since 1912 (now slightly modified) and is probably the only cinemas in the world that have daylight and can be used during the day for events.
Our small hall (33 seats, 4 of which Fatboy seat bags) is more of a living room cinema - very cozy and with the built-in platforms always with a good view.
Both rooms are equipped with modern digital technology.
