Die Boule-Freunde in Nickenich haben Grund zum Feiern: Ende Juni wurde ein neues Spielfeld eingeweiht. Mitglieder der Freundeskreise Nickenich-Montfort L’Amaury/Frankreich und Chmielowice/Polen haben den Bouleplatz mit zwei Bahnen in den letzten Wochen an der Kulturscheune errichtet. innogy unterstützte die Aktion im Rahmen der Sozial-Initiative „aktiv vor Ort“ mit einer Fördersumme von 2.000 Euro. Die Patenschaft über die Gemeinschaftsaktion übernahm Niclas Bell, Mitarbeiter von Westnetz, dem Verteilnetzbetreiber von innogy im Westen Deutschlands. Die aufwändigen und zeitintensiven Arbeiten mit Bodenaushub, Bau einer frostsicheren Bahn und Begrenzung mit Holzpfosten führten die Helfer in ihrer Freizeit aus. Neben der Boulebahn stellten sie zudem mehrere Sitzbänke auf.
„Zwischen Nickenich und Montfort L’Amaury gibt es seit vielen Jahren eine gut funktionierende Gemeindepartnerschaft, in deren Rahmen häufig gemeinsame Aktionen, wie Austauschbesuche beider Gemeinden, stattfinden. Im Zuge eines solchen Partneraustausches war in diesem Jahr der Bau einer Bouleanlage geplant, dem sich der Freundeskreis Nickenich - Chmielowice (Stadtteil von Opole/Polen) angeschlossen hat. Boule ist in Frankreich ein Volkssport“, betont Ortsbürgermeister Gottfried Busch. Kommunalbetreuer Michael Dötsch, Leiter der Region Rauschermühle bei innogy, sagte bei der Einweihung: „Boule ist ein Spiel für Jung und Alt. Es ist sowohl für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene der perfekte und kommunikative Spielspaß.“"
