FR La fontaine
A une époque, la vieille ville n'avait pas de points d'eau. Les femmes devaient aller la prendre et laver le linge aux deux fontaines munies de grands lavoir, à bonne distance du centre (la Bonne Fontaine et la Louette).

Initialement surmontée d'une pyramide, elle-même surmontée d'une boule, cette fontaine est maintenant sous une statue de Jeanne d'Arc.
Jeanne d'Arc
Jeanne d'Arc, née vers 1412 à Domrémy, royaume de France et morte sur le bûcher le 30 mai 1431 à Rouen, alors possession du royaume d'Angleterre.

Elle est une héroïne de l'histoire de France, chef de guerre, surnommée depuis le xvie siècle « la Pucelle d'Orléans » et, depuis le xixe siècle, « mère de la nation française ».

Au début du xve siècle, cette jeune fille de dix-sept ans d'origine paysanne affirme avoir reçu de la part des saints Michel, Marguerite d'Antioche et Catherine d'Alexandrie la mission de délivrer la France de l'occupation anglaise. Elle parvient à rencontrer Charles VII, à conduire victorieusement les troupes françaises contre les armées anglaises, à lever le siège d'Orléans et à conduire le roi au sacre à Reims, contribuant ainsi à inverser le cours de la guerre de Cent Ans.

Capturée par les Bourguignons à Compiègne en 1430, elle est vendue aux Anglais par Jean de Luxembourg, comte de Ligny, pour la somme de dix mille livres. Elle est condamnée à être brûlée vive en 1431 après un procès en hérésie conduit par Pierre Cauchon, évêque de Beauvais et ancien recteur de l'université de Paris. Entaché de nombreuses irrégularités, ce procès voit sa révision ordonnée par le pape Calixte III en 1455. Un second procès est instruit qui conclut, en 1456, à l'innocence de Jeanne et la réhabilite entièrement. Grâce à ces deux procès dont les minutes ont été conservées, elle est l'une des personnalités les mieux connues du Moyen Âge.




En The Place
At one time, the old town had no water points. The women had to go to pick it up and wash the linen at the two fountains equipped with large wash-houses, at a good distance from the center (La Bonne Fontaine and La Louette).

Initially surmounted by a pyramid, itself surmounted by a ball, this fountain is now under a statue of Joan of Arc.
The Person
Jeanne d'Arc, born about 1412 in Domremy, kingdom of France and died on the stake on 30 May 1431 in Rouen, then possession of the kingdom of England.

She is a heroine in the history of France, a warlord, nicknamed since the sixteenth century "La Pucelle d'Orléans" and since the nineteenth century "mother of The French nation ".

At the beginning of the fifteenth century, this seventeen-year-old girl of peasant origin declared that she had received from Saint Michael, Margaret of Antioch and Catherine of Alexandria the mission of delivering France from the English occupation. She succeeded in meeting Charles VII., To lead French troops victoriously against the English armies, to raise the siege of Orleans, and to lead the king to the coronation at Reims, thus contributing to reversing the course of the Hundred Years War.

Captured by the Burgundians at Compiegne in 1430, it was sold to the English by Jean de Luxembourg, Count de Ligny, for the sum of ten thousand livres. She was condemned to be burned alive in 1431 after a trial in heresy led by Pierre Cauchon, bishop of Beauvais and former rector of the University of Paris. Entilled in numerous irregularities, this trial saw its revision ordered by Pope Calixtus III in 1455. A second trial is investigated which concluded, in 1456, to Jeanne's innocence and rehabilitated her entirely. Thanks to these two trials, the minutes of which have been preserved, she is one of the best known personalities of the Middle Ages.
