A large bronze, stainless steel, & stone sculpture, shaped like a giant gas flame, stands at the Rath, a coastal road overlooking the Milford Haven Estuary.
The mirror like stainless steel aspect gives a reflection of whoever stands in front of it, showing the Pembroke Refinery in the background over the other side of the Haven Estuary.
The Stone base is lightly engraved with Pembrokeshire scenes, Refineries, & Workers.
The stone plinth is also embossed with text in English & Welsh.
The main text reads:
"PEMBROKESHIRE REFLECT ON YOUR PEOPLE THROUGH THEM FLOWS OUR NATIONS ENERGY"
"The sculpture is a memorial sculpture dedicated as a tribute for four workers who died in an explosion at the former Chevron oil refinery, in Pembroke.
Julie Schmitz, 54, of Pembroke, Dennis Riley, 52, Robert Broome, 48, and Andrew Jenkins, 33, who were all from Milford Haven, died in June 2011 at the Pembroke plant.
The bronze sculpture was dedicated in Milford Haven on Tuesday.
A stone bench memorial will be dedicated in Pembroke on Wednesday.
The workers all died at the former Chevron site when a storage tank exploded." Text Source: (
