Der Gefängnisturm wurde um 1550 als Teil der Stadtbefestigung errichtet. Die heutige barocke Haube wurde erst 1700 aufgesetzt. Das Gefängnis befand sich im Kellerraum. Der Legende nach soll Ludwig van Beethoven wegen Trunkenheit hier eine Nacht lang eingesessen haben. Heute ist im Turm ein kleines Museum eingerichtet, das nach Vereinbarung besucht werden kann. Ein Besuch ist im Rahmen der Nachtwächterrundgänge durch Unkels Gassen möglich.
The prison tower was built around 1550 as part of the city fortification. The present Baroque dome was later erected since 1700. The prison was in the basement. According to the legend, Ludwig van Beethoven was supposed to have spend a night here for drunkenness. Today there is a small museum in the tower which can be visited by appointment. A visit is possible within the framework of the tour of the night watchman through Unkel's alleys.
