RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1978 (JRS) THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS 1 AND 2, AND THE AZIMUTH MARK WERE RECOVERED AND FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION. PERMISSION COULD NOT BE OBTAINED TO DISTURB ORNAMENTAL SHRUBBERY SURROUNDING THE REFERENCE MARKS, THEREFORE, NO MEASUREMENTS TO OR BETWEEN THEM COULD BE MADE. REFERENCE MARK 1 COULD NOT BE SEEN, HOWEVER THE DISK OF REFERENCE MARK 2 COULD BE SEEN FROM THE TOP OF THE TOWER AND WAS OBSERVED. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS NOT VISIBLE FROM THE GROUND. THE STATION IS ABOUT 4 MILES NORTHEAST OF GARRETTSVILLE, 1 MILE NORTH OF NELSON AND ON PROPERTY OWNED BY MR. KEVIN LARSON, 12408 WINDHAM PARKMAN ROAD, GARRETTSVILLE, OHIO 44231. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE IN THE COMMUNITY OF NELSON AT THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS 305 AND 282, GO NORTH ON COUNTY ROAD (NELSON ROAD) FOR 1.3 MILES TO A GRAVEL DRIVE ON THE RIGHT AND STATION IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE LAWN. CONTINUE NORTH ON NELSON ROAD FOR 0.4 MILE TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT. STATION MARKS, STAMPED---NELSON 1951---, ARE STANDARD DISKS. THE SURFACE DISK IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 66 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF A PAVED ROAD, 39 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF A 12-INCH PINE TREE AND 21.5 FEET SOUTH OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE UNDERGROUND DISK WAS NOT INSPECTED AT THIS TIME. REFERENCE MARK 1, STAMPED---NELSON NO 1 1951---, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 82 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF A HOUSE AND 20 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF THE DRIVEWAY. REFERENCE MARK 2, STAMPED---NELSON NO 2 1951---, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 85 FEET SOUTH OF A POWERLINE POLE AND 28 FEET EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE PAVED ROAD. AZIMUTH MARK, STAMPED---NELSON 1951---, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 1 INCH ABOVE THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. IT IS 82 FEET NORTH OF A UTILITY POLE, 27 FEET WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF PARKMAN ROAD, 14 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF MAILBOX 12599, AND 0.8 FOOT EAST OF A CARSONITE WITNESS POST.
