The monument is located in the airpark of the National Air Force Museum of Canada, off RCAF Road in east Trenton. RAF Ferry Command was established 1940 to oversee the movement of North American-built aircraft, predominantly bombers and transports, to the European Theatre of Operations.
Ferry Command was begun by the RAF in 1938 and continued operations until 1943, when it was reduced to Group status and renamed 45 Atlantic Transport Group. It was a major component of Transport Command, which oversaw worldwide transport movements , not just Atlantic Crossings.
The monument has the outlines of a Lancaster bomber, Dakota transport and a Hudson Transport/bomber at its top.
The words
RCAF/RAF
#45 (Atlantic Transport) Group
Ferry Command
are emblazoned on it.
