[GER] Das 1927 im Klinkerbaustil errichtete Rathaus der damaligen stormarnschen Gemeinde am Saseler Markt wurde 1928 bezogen.
Nach 1945 diente das, nach einer Kriegsbeschädigung nur noch mit einem flachen Notdach versehene Gebäude, der Polizei als Stützpunkt. Anschließend viel Jahre als öffentliche Bücherhalle. Heute ist ein Restaurant in dem Gebäude. Das Dach wurde nach einer aufwendigen Rekonstruktion mit dem Dachreiter mit Uhren und Glockenspiel versehen.
1293 wurde das Dorf als „Sasle“ erstmals urkundlich erwähnt, es dürfte aber erheblich älter sein. Der Name ist zurückzuführen auf ein altsächsisches Kompositum aus dem Bestimmungswort sahs für „Stein“ und dem Grundwort loh für „Hain“, „Lichtung“. Spätere urkundliche Schreibformen des Namens sind „Satzel“, „Sazel“, „Sasell“, „Saßell“, „Saeßell“, „Sahsell“, „Saßel“ und schließlich „Sasel“.
Eine Trasse des Königswegs zwischen Hamburg und Lübeck führt knapp am Ort vorbei. Im Unterschied zu mehreren Dörfern der Umgebung (Wellingsbüttel, Tangstedt, Woldenhorn/Ahrensburg), die seit dem 16. Jahrhundert unter Gutsherrschaft kamen, blieb Sasel – ähnlich wie andere Geestranddörfer – stets ein Bauerndorf. Historisch zählt es zur Landschaft Stormarn. Politisch-administrativ gehörte es seit dem Spätmittelalter zum „herzoglichen Anteil“ Holsteins (dem Herzogtum [Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp) und seit dessen Auflösung 1771 zum dänischen Gesamtstaat. 1864/67 kam es mit der Provinz Schleswig-Holstein an Preußen und 1937 mit zahlreichen anderen stormarnschen Dörfern an Hamburg (Groß-Hamburg-Gesetz).

[ENG] Built in 1927 in the Klinkerbaustil, the town hall of the then stormarn municipality at Saseler Markt was moved into 1928.
After 1945, the police, after a war damage, had only a flat emergency roof, served as a base for the police. Afterwards many years as a public library. Today is a restaurant in the building. After an elaborate reconstruction, the roof was fitted with the clocks.
In 1293 the village was mentioned as a "Sasle" for the first time, but it should be considerably older. The name is attributed to an old Saxon compositum from the keyword "sah" for "Stein" and the root word loh for "Hain", "Lichtung" Later documentary writings of the name are "Satzel", "Sazel", "Sasell", "Saßell", "Saeßell", "Sahsell", "Saßel" and finally "Sasel".
A route of the kingsroad between Hamburg and Lübeck leads just past the place. In contrast to several villages in the area (Wellingsbüttel, Tangstedt, Woldenhorn / Ahrensburg), Sasel remained a peasant village, similar to other villages. Historically, it is part of the Stormarn landscape. Politically and administratively it belonged since the late Middle Ages to the "ducal part" of Holsteins (the duchy [Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp) and since its dissolution in 1771 to the Danish Gesamtstaat. In 1864/67, the province of Schleswig-Holstein came to Prussia and in 1937 to Hamburg (Groß-Hamburg-Gesetz) with numerous other Stormarn villages.
