The Railway Inn is an attractive pub next to the start of The Churnet Valley Railway and has been part of the area for almost as long as the railway that runs in front of it has been in existence.

The Railway Inn has a pillory and a hanging pub sign. They are simplistic in design and depict a white railway line that curves to the top of the sign set on a green background, with Railway Inn in white lettering to the side.

The area was christened ‘ Staffordshire’s Little Switzerland’ by the railway company in the late 1800’s in an attempt to attract tourists.
This led to the Earl of Shrewsbury opening the garden’s at Alton Towers to visitors that nowadays hosts a world famous theme park.

It was around that time that the Railway Hotel as it was then, seems to have been built with it first being recorded in the census of 1881 which would have coincided with the increase in tourism.

Nowadays the railway is a tourist attraction in itself attracting many thousands of people to its steam train themed days.

The Railway Inn provides fine ales, food and accommodation.
