"La Fraternité de la Nativité de la Mère de Dieu existe depuis maintenant près de 30 ans.
Elle est aujourd'hui composée de trois moines: Deux hiéromoines (moines prêtres) et d'un hiérodiacre (moine diacre) qui se rassemblent pour célébrer les Offices liturgiques de l'Eglise Orthodoxe.
L'Eglise est ouverte à toute personne qui désire rencontrer Dieu, prier, se recueillir et se joindre à la prière des moines.
La Fraternité accueille tous ceux qui cherchent à rencontrer Jésus-Christ en Son unique Église, l'Eglise Orthodoxe qui est la seule Arche de Salut.
Elle compte des fidèles de tous les horizons et de toute nationalité: Il n'y a qu'une seule Église, qu'un seul peuple Orthodoxe nourrit de la même Foi et des mêmes Mystères (Sacrements) du Christ.
Dans l'Eglise Orthodoxe, la nationalité ou l'appartenance sociale disparait: "il n'y a plus ni Juif ni Grec, il n'y a plus ni esclave ni libre, il n'y a plus ni homme ni femme; car tous vous êtes un en Jésus-Christ" (Galates 3:28)
Les fondateurs ont placé la Fraternité au sein de la cité se souvenant que saint Basile le Grand disait que le travail de moines n'est pas seulement celui qui est strictement utile au monastère ou à la fraternité monastique. Le travail des moines c'est aussi les oeuvres de charité : visiter les malades, les prisonniers…
Mélangés au monde les moines exercent ainsi un ministère à l'égard des gens du monde,. En rapprochant les moines des communautés chrétiennes des villes, Saint Basile le Grand voyait, au-delà de leur sanctification personnelle, l'utilité de leur présence au milieu des fidèles comme un ferment dans la masse et un organisme actif parfaitement intégré dans le corps mystique plus vaste de l'Église. C'est le cas de notre Fraternité monastique nîmoise et sa spécificité. Être une présence orthodoxe priante, paisible et accueillante. Être au service des fidèles qui nous le demandent. Tout ceci dans le respect des différences religieuses de la Cité et de chacun."
