The structure, which is to be completed by September, is the latest in a series of improvements Hewitt has made to its city parks. City Manager Adam Miles said the city is in the early phases of planning a community grand opening for the amphitheater, which he anticipates will be used for outdoor concerts or live music by area bands during some evenings.
The facility will include a few large stone rocks as seating options, but mostly will feature open green space for people to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Residents booking events at the site likely would need to rent folding chairs, he said.
Lloyd Coffman, a member of Hewitt’s parks and beautification committee, said he envisions outdoor plays and theatrical performances at the amphitheater.
