 The Consistory then envisaged the construction of the present temple, whose plans were entrusted to the Parisian architect Léon Jossier, author of several similar buildings in the region (Chaillevette, Étaules, but also Exoudun, in Deux-Sèvres). Breaking with the traditional architectural bias inspired by classicism, he imagines a neo-Romanesque octagonal edifice with vast dimensions. The works are delegated to the architect Alphonse Bourgeat, of Rochefort, and the site is under the direction of the entrepreneur Pierre Bourdin, of Marennes. They began in 1854 and a few months later, on April 19, 1855, the dedication ceremony, supervised by Pastor Jean-Pierre Lafon, president of the Consistory of La Tremblade, brought together many faithful from the surrounding area.
A restoration campaign was carried out in 1904 under the direction of the architect René Baraton, and again in 1994, with the restoration of the framework. Taking into consideration the architectural qualities of the building, unique in the region, the Regional Department of Cultural Affairs of Poitou-Charentes proposes the temple to the inscription in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments, a measure made effective in 1998, the Fourth centenary of the Edict of Nantes.
The Saintonge-Océan Reformed Church is a Protestant Church member of the United Protestant Church of France. She knows herself inheriting the principles of the Reformation, the Protestant Revival and Social Protestantism.
At present, approximately 200 families, mostly domiciled in the five communes of Saint Palais s / Mer, Breuillet, Vaux s / Mer, Saint Augustin s / Mer and Saint Sulpice de Royan form the community. In each of the five communes, the church has a temple, but the Sunday cults are celebrated mainly at Vaux s / Mer (from Advent to Palm Sunday) and Saint Palais-Courlay (the rest of the year) Because both temples have an organ and a heater. In Saint Palais-Courlay, a parish house welcomes the various activities of the community.
As part of the Charente-Maritime Consistory, the Saintonge-Océan Reformed Church is particularly close to the neighboring Churches of Royan and the Saintonge Islands, with which it works hand in hand, within the Côte-de-Beauté-Seudre sector -Oléron.

 Le consistoire envisage alors la construction du temple actuel, dont les plans sont confiés à l'architecte parisien Léon Jossier, auteur de plusieurs édifices similaires dans la région (Chaillevette, Étaules, mais aussi Exoudun, dans les Deux-Sèvres). Rompant avec le parti-pris architectural traditionnel inspiré du classicisme, il imagine un édifice octogonal néo-roman, aux vastes dimensions. Les travaux sont délégués à l'architecte Alphonse Bourgeat, de Rochefort, et le chantier est placé sous la direction de l'entrepreneur Pierre Bourdin, de Marennes. Ils commencent en 1854 et quelques mois plus tard, le 19 avril 1855, la cérémonie de dédicace, supervisée par le pasteur Jean-Pierre Lafon, président du Consistoire de La Tremblade, réunit de nombreux fidèles des environs.
Une campagne de restauration est menée en 1904 sous la direction de l'architecte René Baraton, puis de nouveau en 1994, avec notamment une remise en état de la charpente. Prenant en considération les qualités architecturales de l'édifice, unique dans la région, la Direction régionale des Affaires culturelles de Poitou-Charentes propose le temple à l'inscription à l'Inventaire supplémentaire des monuments historiques, mesure rendue effective en 1998, année du quatrième centenaire de l'édit de Nantes.
L’Église Réformée Saintonge-Océan est une Église protestante membre de l’Église Protestante Unie de France. Elle se sait héritière des principes de la Réforme, du Réveil Protestant et du Protestantisme Social.
Actuellement, environ 200 familles, majoritairement domiciliées dans les cinq communes Saint Palais s/Mer, Breuillet, Vaux s/Mer, Saint Augustin s/Mer et Saint Sulpice de Royan forment la communauté. Dans chacune des cinq communes, l’Église dispose d’un temple, mais les cultes dominicaux sont célébrés majoritairement à Vaux s/Mer (de l’Avent aux Rameaux) et à Saint Palais-Courlay (le reste de l’année), parce que ces deux temples disposent d’un orgue et d’un chauffage. À Saint Palais-Courlay, une maison paroissiale accueille les différentes activités de la communauté.
Faisant partie du Consistoire Charente-Maritime, l’Église Réformée Saintonge-Océan se sait particulièrement proche des Églises voisines de Royan et des Îles de Saintonge, avec lesquelles elle travaille main dans la main, au sein du secteur Côte-de-Beauté-Seudre-Oléron.
