"As miners, ranchers, and homesteaders ventured into rugged Hells Canyon, riverboat travel formed a critical link with the Lewiston/Clarkston valley. A succession of boats, beginning with the steamboat lmnoho in 1903, hauled supplies, mining equipment, livestock, mail and passengers in and out of Hells Canyon. By 1910, gasoline power replaced steam. It took the Imnoho over 13 hours to make the 95-mile round trip from Lewiston to Mountain Sheep Rapids. By the 1950s, the gasoline-powered Wenoho was able to cover twice the distance in about the same time on Its 178-mile trip to Johnson Bar and back."
