The Beith House was constructed by William Beith, a Scottish stone cutter, in
1850. The house is in a Greek Revival style. It is constructed of riverstone and
brick. The Beith family only lived in the house for a a few years when it was
sold to the Willard Wiswell, the Wiswell family remained the home until the
1920's. The house was owned by many families into the 1970's and then became
vacant. The house was threatened with demolition until the house was acquired by
a preservation organization now called the Preservation Partners of the Fox
Valley. Through this organization the house has been completely restored and now
is a museum and preservation study house. The house is open for tours June 1 -
August 31 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Tours are by
appointment at other times by calling (630) 377-6424.
