Once a sight of grandeur, now clinging on to past glories, like the cemetery, in failing desperation.

The old cemetery, I can find no footprint on the web other than Find-A-Grave.
The gates are in the original location, to enter the cemetery, but the fence has been removed and moved to the tight square around the stone.
The post are designed with rosettes and nimbles creating a pleasant marked look to off set the fleur-de-lis points on the top of the vertical bars.
From what I am told by locals, this was the City Cemetery until 1894., when the Warrenton Cemetery was plotted and opened. Latest burial, per tombstone dates, was 1878 here.
This cemetery was abandoned and neglected. Over grown and almost disappeared from site.
Not sure of date, but eventually the site was cleaned up, almost all tombstones were toppled or damaged or destroyed. The pieces were gathered, and placed in a central location, and the fence which enclosed the entire area was salvaged as best they could and placed around the salvaged stones.
The are 46 tombstones within the fenced area and inside three raised beds just to the east of the fenced area.
The actual grave sites are all over this hill side.
