The Butter Market was an open fronted building that was used in the 18th/19th century to give shelter to farmer’s wives on market day when they were selling dairy products. A local benefactor paid to have railing added to the building, allowing the Town Council to start a museum of local products and artefacts. The artefacts include bread ovens, railway items and farm equipment. The collection is augmented with sign boards giving history of the items and is available to view at any time.
