The mill was also known as the Peep Toad Mill built around 1850 as a cotton mill. The mill was owned by the Elliotville Manufactuing Company, whose main mill was located upstream on the Whetstone Brook. The cut stone dam that serviced the mill is located across the street. The mill is used as a residence, studio and craft exhibition space today.
