I visited this place recently on a camping trip to Clearwater Creek Campground. This Lookout tower blew me away. It is built on a rock at the top of Sturgill Peak. During the spring and summer you can go visit this place. Be sure and say hello to Iris. She is a very cool old gal that spends her days watching for lightning strikes.
The lookout keepers have radios now, but according to the information sign the keeper would once have to trek cross country to put out any blazes that they saw!
The wild flowers in this area are some of the best I have ever seen. Iris may give you a handful of grain to feed the many chipmunks if you are lucky. It is very odd how on the very top of the peak the butterflies gather. Please enjoy this waymark.
