Lincoln County was formed in 1893. In the early 1960's there were five communities that wanted to incorporate into one community. They had a contest for the selection of the name and Lincoln City came out the winner in early 1965.
Anna Hyatt Huntington donated a statue of the "future president" entitled "On the Circuit" to Lincoln City that same year. The statue is locally known as "Abraham Lincoln on Horseback" and depicts a younger Lincoln in about 1850 studying from his "saddlebag college".
