Though almost all traces of its original use have been removed, when originally built in 1956, this underpass carried Highway 95 over the Canadian Pacific Railway line as it passed out of Cranbrook. Many years ago that railway was decommissioned and the tracks taken up. Since the underpass was already in place it was used as the central point for an interchange taking Highway 95A off Highway 95. While Highway 95 proceeds north to Golden, Highway 95 leads through Kimberley then rejoins Highway 95.
The railway line has since been repurposed as a Rails to Trails trail, the
Isadore Canyon Trail, which begins just to the west of the underpass.
