Aquaparque was usually a crowded water park until July 1993, when a tragic accident happened. Two children died in the park, after having been sucked into a pipe which was left open. This incident and a more rigorous legislation dictated the closure of Aquaparque and eleven other water parks (half of the total of water parks that existed in Portugal by that time).
