Final change of motif at the Old Town Hall: Since Wednesday, the gingerbread house has been passé and instead an oversized cardboard nose can be seen. Facade climbers hung up the new tarpaulin on Wednesday morning, with the Telekom for the fifth time an eye-catcher managed.
It all started with the long guys of the Baskets, then came the World Cup stadium, the puzzle house and the gingerbread house. "The last motif is a nice conclusion of this project, which has been a lot of fun for many citizens of Bonn," said Hans-Christian Schwingen from Telekom.
Also Lord Mayor Jürgen Nimptsch was pleased about the conclusion: "Telekom has managed to make a construction site to the most photographed object in Bonn in recent months," he explained. "The gingerbread house is thus plastered, now the red cardboard nose is in a good mood. Who would not be jeck op Bonn and his old town hall?"
Nimptsch had more reason to be happy. Because the Stadtwappen and the crown on the facade of the Rathaus are now lit up again in a new light. After six weeks of renovation, restoration and gilding, the crown was tied to the roof on Wednesday morning.
Together with Nimptsch were also the chairman of the association Altes Rathaus, Rudolf Mueller, and Ralf Eibel, board member of the PSD-Bank Cologne, which made the renovation possible, and watched as a crane lifted the approximately 150 kilogram heavy Schmuckelement upward.
Even the Stadtwappen, which had been restored by a specialist company on the spot, now looks as new again. Spalling had been patched with tuff. The lower jaw of the left lion's head had been so heavily weathered that he had to be completely replaced by a stonemason.
The 1.20 wide and a narrow meter high crown, which left its place at the end of November, was covered with gold leaf, while in the past it was painted with gold. A total of about 8,000 sheets of gold were processed, the city reported. An "average five-figure sum" had flowed into the restoration of coat of arms and crown, said Rudolf Müller for the Förderverein.
Behind the scenes, work is being done on the completion of the renovation: roofers are also at work, as are drywallers and tilers, house technology is installed and the lift is installed. Just recently, an order for carpentry work of around 250,000 euros was awarded.
It includes the assembly of 40 new doors and the reworking of another 100 doors. In addition, 130 running meters of windowsills are renewed. The contracted company also takes care of the semi-high wooden panelings and panels in the tapestry hall. In addition, the floorboards are renewed throughout the house. "
