Habitat for Humanity ReStore is about 5 years at this location and as many times we have visited Grand Forks never were aware that there was a Restore there until we saw the large sign on Hwy. 3.

We entered the store through a large bay door and were surprised that the store is much larger than expected. They offer plumbing, electrical, other building supplies. Towards the back is an assortment of furniture and appliances: stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers.

The store was clean and well organized. Two staff members were helping a customer load a truck with recently purchased items.

When they moved in, much to the delight of local do-it-yourselfers, the Grand Forks Gazette was there to record the auspicious event.

As of May, 2017 they're still in their temporary location and still fundraising for their permanent home.

Coming now to Grand Forks is a ReStore—a facility that will offer multiple benefits to the community and its residents, through the sale of inexpensive, used and new building materials, equipment and other second-hand goods. Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC (HFHSBC - formerly known as Habitat for Humanity Boundary) will be opening a Restore on Thursday, September 4th.

Rick Friesen, Executive Director for HFHSBC, stated that “we are still planning on building a ReStore in the future but in the meantime, until such time that we have raised significant funds to be able to accomplish this, we will be opening a temporary ReStore located over in the old forestry building at 136 Sagamore Avenue.”

The organization is involved in a collaborative multi-agency project with two other organizations, Whispers of Hope and the Boundary Emergency and Transition Housing Society (BETHS) whose purpose it is to meet the needs of individuals and families in the Boundary area who are homeless, hungry and/or unable to obtain decent, safe and affordable housing. The MAAP project is located downtown on Riverside Drive and has an empty lot that will eventually house the ReStore building and transition housing units. The long-term vision for the MAAP project is to create a single facility that will house all three agencies—and where resources can then be shared, making it a very unique partnership.

The ReStore is now accepting donations of new and used building supplies, equipment, furniture and household items that are in good resalable condition. As well, are in need of volunteers to support the initiative. Friesen further commented, “We cannot wait any longer to open a Restore, and the faster we are able to gather items for our store, the quicker we will be able to open our facility.

Donated product can be brought to 136 Sagamore Avenue, Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
