This border crossing between France and Italy is on the coast road. On the French side the road is the D6327 and on the Italy side it is the SS1dir.

Since the Schengen treaty it is not necessary to stop at the border and show passports but police from both countries may do random stops of traffic.
Menton is the nearest French town to the border whilst Ventigmilia is the nearest Italian town.
Menton is close to the border though and like us many people walk along the coast road to venture across the border and go to the nearby cafe on the Italian side.
The actual border is on bridge Pont St. Ludovic that crosses a small river.
The customs building is actually just inside France and the road splits into two, each side passing a different side of the building. The south side of the road next to the coast takes traffic from France whilst the north side of the road carries traffic from Italy.
As well as a border sign for the road traffic crossing the border, there are small metal plates embedded in the bridge on each side of the road showing the actual border.
The waymark co-ordinates are taken from the metal plate on the south side of the road closest to the coast.
