TU0517 - "U 15" bench mark disk - Pupukea, HI - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

As described by the US Coast and Geodetic Survey ("CGS") back in 1969:

"7.0 MILES NORTHWEST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 83 FROM THE KAHUKU PLANTATION COMPANY HEADQUARTERS AT KAHUKU, IN THE TOP AND 1.2 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE SOUTHWEST END OF THE SOUTHEAST CONCRETE HEAD WALL OF DOUBLE 3- BY 6-FOOT CONCRETE BOX CULVERTS, 16.6 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 8.4 FEET NORTH OF TELEPHONE POLE 296T, AND ABOUT LEVEL WITH THE HIGHWAY."

While the station is actually MUCH closer to Pupukea which is another census-designated place on Oahu, the remainder of the CGS description is pretty accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark -- alternatively, one can use the gallery images for any future attempt at actual recovery.

The station was recovered in 'decent' condition: it's been painted over but still quite visible -- and the paint could be easily peeled off, if necessary.

That said, the NGS' currently posted coordinates (N 21° 40.570 W 158° 2.282) are still somewhat off, by at least 20 feet. More importantly, they place the station on the OTHER/WRONG side of the road: it's on the Southeastern shoulder of Hwy 83, not Northwestern shoulder.
