Ogema Firewall 1915
In January 1915, a fire destroyed the East side of Ogema's Main Street. Although firewalls were uncommon & costly, the security they provided prompted the councillors to let tenders for a firewall and a firehall. Robert Lecky, Regina & Arthur Townsend, Milestone were the contractors. The wall is 28 feet high, 16 inches wide and 70 feet long. It extends 8 feet under ground. The firehall wa built across the street, with one of its own walls acting at the East street side firewall. Both projects cost 4,325 dollars. Villagers could not raise debentures as government was certiain the wall would not last 5 years.
