In 1882 Canada's Northwest Territories were divided into the Districts of Alberta, Athabasca and Saskatchewan. This cairn marks where three of the districts converged.
In 1905 the newly created provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan were admitted into the growing dominion of Canada and incorporated most of these four districts within their boundaries.
