Bei Ihrem Besuch in Bad Münstereifel werden Ihnen gewiss auch die rote, englische Telefonzelle und der englische Briefkasten in der Fußgängerzone auffallen. Sie sind Zeichen der Verschwisterung der Städte Ashford in der Grafschaft Kent und Bad Münstereifel, die bereits seit 1952 einen regen Jugendaustausch pflegen und seit 1964 offiziell verschwistert sind.
Seit 1967 ist Bad Münstereifel auch mit der französischen Stadt Fougères in der Bretagne verschwistert. Die Fougèresstraße z.B. führt dies namentlich im Schilde.
Die intensiven Bemühungen Bad Münstereifels um eine bessere Völkerverständigung wurden 1971 vom Europarat mit der Europafahne honoriert - ein Zeichen für den offenen, friedvollen Geist, der in unserer traditionsreichen und doch so modernen, aufgeschlossenen Stadt beheimatet ist. So war die im Jahre 1984 besiegelte Partnerschaft zwischen Ashford und Fougéres und damit die Dreierpartnerschaft Bad Münstereifel - Ashford - Fougères eigentlich nur eine logische Folge.
Es hat in der Vergangenheit tausende von Begegnungen über den Kanal hinweg und zwischen der Bretagne und der Eifel gegeben. Nicht nur die jährlich im Wechsel in einer der drei Partnerstädte stattfindenden offiziellen Treffen sind erwähnenswert. Viel bedeutsamer für die gegenseitige Verständigung ist der Austausch zwischen Vereinen und Jugendlichen sowie der Familienaustausch, getragen vom Ashford-Fougéres-Club.
Es besteht auch ein reger Schüleraustausch zwischen dem Städtischen St. Michael-Gymnasium Bad Münstereifel, der Städtischen Realschule und Höheren Schulen in Ashford und Fougères.
Das Erzbischöfliche St. Angela-Gymnasium Bad Münstereifel pflegt einen Schüleraustausch mit einem kirchlichen Gymnasium in Fougères."
