This 120 year old bronze bell was mounted atop a mortared cut stone cairn with a flat top covered by large conglomerate stones or concrete (it's difficult to tell which). The bell bears two inscriptions, the upper one of which reads:
Cast by the Chaplin - Fulton Mfg. Co. Pittsburgh PA 1897.
The lower inscription reads:
Dep't of Marine & Fisheries, Canada 1897.
Three plaques adorn the cairn. The one on the street side is inscribed as below while the other two, on the sides of the cairn, bear the names of those who were lost at sea in the period 1867 to 1967. The plaques bear a total of 103 names.
