The "Saffenburg" was built in the 11th century by Adolf von Nörvenich and Albert von Saffenburt. In 1081 the "Saffenburg" found a documentary mention for the first time.
In the course of the history the "Saffenburg" has been taken only twice by hostile troops.
With a length expansion of about 260m and a width of 80m the "Saffenburg" is one of the biggest castles of the "Ahrtal".
