L’arbre du millénaire. Vision du passé, du présent et du futur
En 1999, la Ville de Pointe-au-Père a acheté 1999 arbres qu’elle a distribués à la population. En l’an 2000, elle a commandé, en collaboration avec la Corporation des loisirs et le soutien financier du Bureau du Canada, un 2000e arbre : l’arbre du Millénaire, symbole du passage au troisième millénaire. La production a commencé en juillet 2000 et l’œuvre a été inaugurée le 17 décembre au parc du Millénaire.
L’artiste André Gamache vous offre 2 alternatives pour l’avenir de la planète. De ce côté-ci, tel que vu sur la photo, nous nous tenons la tête entre les mains et nous pleurons sur notre sort parce que nous avons altéré notre environnement. Par contre, de l’autre côté, c’est l’offrande. Nous tenons la planète entre nos mains et avons des choix de société à faire. Sur l’œuvre, l’action passée, présente ou future possible se lit à la surface des océans et les conséquences se lisent sur les mains de l’homme ou de la femme. Le passé est représenté en Atlantique, le présent dans l’océan Indien et le futur dans le Pacifique. Entre les 2 mains coule la vie.
L’œuvre a été modelée dans de la glaise montée sur une structure de bois et de styromousse. Après avoir fabriqué un moule de plâtre non récupérable, l’artiste y a fait couler le béton teint dans la masse. Une fois le plâtre enlevé, la sculpture est apparue telle que nous la voyons.
Deux plaques accompagnant la sculpture sont fixées sur un support en béton contenant un parchemin avec le nom des citoyens de Pointe-au-Père.
The Millennium Tree. Vision of the past, present and future
In 1999, the Town of Pointe-au-Père bought 1999 trees that it distributed to the population. The artist André Gamache offers you two alternatives for the future of the planet. On this side, as seen in the picture, we hold our heads in our hands and we cry over our fate because we have altered our environment. On the other hand, it is the offering. We hold the planet in our hands and have social choices to make. On the work, the past, present or possible future action is read on the surface of the oceans and the consequences are read on the hands of the man or the woman. The past is represented in the Atlantic, present in the Indian Ocean and the future in the Pacific. Between the two hands flows life.
The work was modeled in clay mounted on a structure of wood and styrofoam. After making a non-recoverable plaster mold, the artist poured the dyed concrete into the mass. Once the plaster was removed, the sculpture appeared as we see it.
Two plates accompanying the sculpture are fixed on a concrete support containing a parchment with the name of the citizens of Pointe-au-Père.
