On Military Street/Highway 2 toward the eastern edge of town, is the only fire hall in Houlton. In front of the station, near Military Street, is a very contented bear.

This Smokey looks quite contented because when we visited it was raining a bit and his "Fire Danger" sign read "Moderate". It wasn't likely that Smokey would be called out of town to attend to a forest fire on that day. So, he spent the rest of the day leaning on his shovel, greeting passers by and enjoying the rain.
