One of four small history plaques located on pillar at Austin’s outdoor Loneliest Highway Visitors Center.
Marker Title (required): The Nevada Central Railroad

Marker Text (required):
A narrow gauge, operated from Battle Mountain to Austin from 1880 to 1938. The railroad was constructed in just five months beginning in September 1879. The railroad to Austin was completed on February 9, 1880. The Nevada Central served Austin and the area faithfully for fifty-eight years, and was abandoned in 1938 after traffic and mining dwindled.
