Kinsmen Park itself comprises almost a full city block, with this playground occupying the northwest corner of it.
The playground area includes Slides, Swings, Jungle Gym, and a Kids' Play Area. They are all set in an area of pea gravel, affording soft landings. The rest of Kinsmen Park includes a Water Park (Spray Park for those dog days of summer), Large Open Lawn, Picnic Tables and Bathroom Facilities, as well as two war memorials.
It's nice to see a city continuing to upgrade its facilities, as the city of Castlegar is doing. A couple years ago it added more fun things to the Kinsmen Park playground to keep the kids busy for even longer, which we expect parents will approve. A little news story in the Castlegar News fleshes out the details below.
Adjacent to the south is another small park, Rotary Centennial Garden, consisting of flower gardens and shrub beds, a fountain and pool, and seating areas. In the rear is a small four level amphitheatre with a small stage for concerts and readings of prose and poetry.

Children enjoy a new attraction at Castlegar's Kinsmen Park |
Kinsmen Park now has a new attraction for young families, with the addition of a fire engine for toddlers and preschoolers to climb on, explore and spark imaginative play. The new equipment complements the rescue theme of the smaller play pieces installed last spring. With the library nearby and the water park adjacent, the toddler playground will round out a full day of fun in the park for families with young children, and will encourage healthy, outdoor activity.
The Castlegar Early Childhood Advisory Council (CECAC) identified a need for a safe, toddler playground several years ago, and reached out to community organizations, businesses and individuals to help make it happen. “We have had tremendous support from the community and we’re thrilled to have the playground complete in time for summer,” says Penny Tees, CECAC coordinator.
Contributors to the project include many local institutions, businesses and individual donors.
