Ketschentor is one of four medieval city gates in the town of Coburg, Bavaria.

The gate was built in 1303 as part of the towns fortification. It is named after the village Ketschendorf which today is a part of the city of Coburg.

To our surpirise, there is no German or English Wikipedia entry regarding the gate. The only information we could find comes from a nearby Geocache.

Originally, the top of the tower was a timber framework. In 1713, the top part was removed and replaced by a canopy called Welsche Haube. Early in the 20th century, the gate was widened to adjust to increasing traffic. Thus, today only the middle part is stil original Gothic Architecture.

Date Built: 1303

This category is focused only to original Gothic architecture, not to pseudo-Gothic, neo-Gothic or Gothic Revival. You can not find this kind of architecture outside of "Old World", moreover this architecture appeared in ca XIIth century (early Gothic) and the last buildings are from cca XVIth (late Gothic) century...
