One of the two remaining convict built buildings begun during Captain Logan's period as commandant of the Brisbane settlement, the mill produced flour and maize meal via windpower or alternatively, a tread mill incorporated in the machinery. Later a signal station for shipping, and fitted with a timeball dropped to indicate noon; a store for the museum; a fire brigade lookout. Pioneer TV experiments took place on site c 1935.
Stone and brick building now cement rendered. Originally four floors, containing wind and tread mills. Structure tapers from base to mill head. Sails and machinery have been removed. Building now topped with an observation platform, lookout cabin and the second of the timeballs installed to visually indicate time.
