This Model 1829 32 Pounder Cannon is mounted on a wooden front pintle barbette mount and is located in a casemate on the north side of Fort Pickens. In this position it was placed to fire into the dry moat in the fort was assaulted from the land. In 1861 Fort Pickens mounted 62 32 pounders.
A 32 pounder could fire shot, shell grape and canister projectiles. With a 10 pound powder charge a 32 pounder could fire its 32 pound solid shot 1922 yards at 5º elevation.
