Sir Wilfred Laurier was born in 1851 in St Lin, Quebec. He studied law at McGill University in Montreal and practiced in that city. He was elected a Liberal legislater in 1871, then in 1874 elected to the House of Commons, serving as Minister of Internal Revenue. In 1896 he became Canada’s seventh Prime Minister.
Description:
Sir Wilfred Laurier was dedicated to Canadian unity and many of his policies sought to lessen the division between the two solitudes. His image is on the Canadian five dollar bill.
