The nearest community of significant population is Chico, nearly ten miles away. The church does have a Facebook page, but they don't say anything about their history. Crafton is a small community of about twenty people in northwestern Wise County, dating to the 1870s. The Crafton Baptist Church was established in October, 1882, and is one of three churches referenced as being extant in 1890 by the Handbook of Texas Online. A 1909 tornado swept away much of the town, including the churches, and rebuilding efforts were no match for economic change, with Crafton's settling into the role of a rural community by 1950.
