Dedicated in 1922, this was originally a WWI memorial with WWII engravings later added. Etched upon this memorial are the names of those brave men who fought and died during WW I and WW II.

Built in 1921 of granite collected from the small community of Ymir, about 175 km south of Nakusp, the Cenotaph is in the shape of an obelisk about fifteen feet in height. It was dedicated in 1922 by Rev. F. Ramsey of St. Mark’s Church, attended by President W. Waterfield of G.W.V.A. (Great War Veterans Association). Originally erected at Broadway Street and Slocan Avenue (now renamed 4th Avenue), in 1963 the Cenotaph was moved to Nakusp Recreation Park, overlooking Arrow Lake.
