[EN] Funerary chapel of the LESAGE family, built by the contractor, Delanodde of Boulonnais.
According to the study of the design of the ornamentation, the sculptures can be attributed to the borrower Constant Harrewyn.
It was built in the first quarter of the 19th century and is classified in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage.
This chapel is located in the old part of the cemetery of the East, Framery street in Boulogne sur mer, in the square of the old tombs of the personalities of Boulogne.
The hourglass evokes the inexorable passage of time; Each grain of sand being able to represent a day of our life. The hourglass regularly carries wings of dove or angel, both messengers of God, as if the instrument of the measure of time became, with death, the soul that the dove or angel will convey to heaven.
In certain representations, these are bat wings, the mammal that flies in the Night, in Death.
By its reversible side, the hourglass evokes the faculty of a new life or of true life, according to the convictions of each one, if one returns this instrument of the measure of time.
