The information sign, on the brick wall behind the anchor states:
"This anchor is from the T.S.S. Wollongbar which was wrecked on May 14th, 1921 after being washed onto a sand-bar when the captain tried unsuccessfully to put to sea from the Old 1888 Town Jetty during a strong easterly gale."
"The remains of the Wreck are still visible offshore from Main Beach near the First Sun Caravan Park."

The anchor was found in a paddock, restored by the Byron Bay Historical Society, and now is a reminder of one part of the region's history.
