Long's Whiteface Camp is on display at the Ranching Heritage Center, on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock TX.
An interpretive sign nearby reads as follows:
"LONG’S WHITEFACE CAMP
1901, 1905
The Whiteface camp was named for the stocky, white faced Herford cattle raised on that division of C. C. Slaughter’s Hockley County, Texas, ranch. The two-story dugout began as a water well - a hole in the ground covered by brush. It later served as a line camp for men working the Whiteface pasture. The box and strip upper story was added in 1905. An Agricola stove in the kitchen was fueled by mesquite roots or cow chips. The stovepipe contained in oven near the cooktop the carried heat to warm the upper story."
