This War Department (WD) boudary stone is set in the corner of the boundary wall that once seperated Chatham Docks and the civilian area of the town. Chatham Docks was a Royal Naval base up until the 20th century. This is a white stone set into red bricks and bears in the inscription "WD No.2" carved into it.

What indicators are near the mark to help people identify where it is located?:
Pier Approach road leads to Gillingham Pier (signposted from the main road) and is approx 50 feet fron a large modern rail bridge over the road.
