EN: The Gottesackerkapelle (Cemetery Chapel) is a simple, late-baroque building in the southwest corner of the Rheinfelden city park. It has a polygonal chancel, a roof turret with a pointed helmet and a hipped canopy. A little outbuilding stands aside on the park wall, which originally served as an ossuary.
A predecessor chapel was built in 1598, when the first cemetery outside the city wall was founded, which was supposed to relieve the old cemetery at the Martinskirche. In 1633/34, the cemetery and the chapel was ravaged by Swedish troops and rebuilt in 1639. In 1740 the chapel was completely rebuilt by Franz Altermatt. In 1827, the roof turret and the canopy were replaced. Shortly after the dissolution of the cemetery in 1924, the chapel was also profaned. In 1969/70, it was restored and equipped with a new organ.
DE: Die Gottesackerkapelle ist ein schlichter spätbarocker Bau in der südwestlichen Ecke des Stadtparks von Rheinfelden. Sie hat einen eigezogenen polygonalen Chor, einen Dachreiter mit Spitzhelm und ein gewalmtes Vordach. Etwas abseits steht noch ein kleineres Häuschen an der Parkmauer, das ursprünglich als Beinhaus diente.
Eine Vorgängerkapelle wurde 1598 erbaut, als der erste Friedhof ausserhalb der Stadtmauern gegründet wurde, der den alten Friedhof bei der Martinskirche entlasten sollte. 1633/34 wurde der Friedhof und die Kapelle von schwedischen Truppen verwüstet und 1639 wieder aufgebaut. 1740 wurde die Kapellevon Franz Altermatt vollständig neu gebaut. 1827 wurde der Dachreiter und das Vordach ersetzt. Kurz nach der Aufhebung des Friedhofs 1924 wurde auch die Kapelle profaniert. 1969/70 wurde sie restauriert und mit einer neuen Orgel versehen.
