Quick Description: The fence separating the US from Mexico used to straddle this marker. Now, full access to the marker can only be gained by being on the Mexican side as the fence has been moved a few feet north of the actual border.

Long Description:
Although there is a waymark for this marker in the border crossings category, there is no crossing allowed here. One must go several miles east to cross the border. At one time, just a few years ago, a mesh fence here straddled the actual border and relatives and friends would meet and exchange conversations...even have picnics. Access to the fence on the US side is now restricted and the fence is now placed several feet from the actual border.

One of the marker's inscription is in English and Spanish. The English portion reads:

"Reconstructed
August 1894
by the
International
Boundary Commission
created by the
Conventions of
1882 and 1889"

Another side reads:

"Limite
de le
Republica
Mexicana

La destruccion
o dislocacion
de este monument
es un delito
punible por
Mexico o
Estados Unidos"

Another side, also in English and Spanish, with the English version reading:

"Initial point of
Boundary between
The United States
and Mexico.
Established by the
joint commission
10 October A.D. 1840
(Agreeably?)to the
Treaty dated at the
City of Guadalupe
Hidalgo
February 2 A.D. 1848
John B. Weller
US Commissioner
Andrew B. Gray
US Surveyor"
The Spanish version list their Commissioner as Pedro Garcia Condea and their surveyor as Jose Salazar Ylarregui.

PS...I noticed that Google maps actually has a white line representing the border that is actually south of this marker and the actual recognized border. One can see the dark line that continues into the Pacific Ocean...that is the border fence.
