When my parents first brought us to Everglades National Park in 1970, this trail was known as the One Way Auto Trail through the pinelands and glades. It may have still been such in 1972 when we came back a second time -- I don't remember this many years later. However, by the time we came back in 1976 the trail had been gated off (for official park vehicles only) and was reserved for "iking" only (hiking and biking).
The main trail (former road) wends its way all the way out to Pine Glades Lake (which can still be reached from a short road off of the main park road), a distance of about 6.6 miles, with side trails going off in other directions -- toward the Pinelands Trail, towards Daniel Beard Research Road, and so on.
