An der Westfront der Thomaskirche befindet sich das im neugotischen Stil erbaute Mendelssohn-Portal, nachträglich benannt nach dem Komponisten Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Das Portal ist reich geschmückt und erstreckt sich in seiner Gesamtheit über mehrere Stockwerke.

Im Kirchenalltag wird das Portal nur selten benutzt. Der Haupteingang der Kirche befindet sich auf der Südseite.

ENGLISH:

The Mendelssohn-portal, built in Neo-gothic style, is named after the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and located on the western front of the Thomaskirche. The portal is richly decorated and over several floors high.

The portal is rarely used. The main entrance to the church is on the south side.
